I Am Always With You
Today, I woke up and I heard the voice of God say, "I am always with you." It was a great comfort to me, at the time, hearing it. I've struggled with bad dreams my whole life, and this morning was no different. I woke up from another bad dream, and when it happens, I often feel God could not be further away. Yet, here God was, speaking to me calmly in my ear, "I am always with you."
When I was finished with my morning routine, I sat down to read my Jesus Calling book I got a only few days after going to Heaven. It opened to the exact page which said, "I am with you always." Yet, even reading this, I still cried. I let back my head on the sofa and sighed from within, "If you are with me, why is all of this happening?" What I felt reminded me of what I read only a few days ago.
I opened up to the story of Gideon in the book of Judges. An angel appears to him and says, "The Lord is with you, mighty warrior." Yet, to Gideon, he couldn't see how God could possibly be there. In Gideon's mind, if bad things were happening, it automatically meant God was absent. In his doubt and confusion, he responds to the angel, "If the Lord is with us, then why is all of this happening?"
Gideon, too, had moments of weakness and fears of abandonment. When his circumstances seemed to say, "God has left me" the angel came to remind Him of the spiritual truth; that God was indeed present, despite what it seemed. I didn't get an answer to my question this morning when I let back my head and cried, but I did get an assurance from God in my heart: that I wasn't alone. In life, sometimes it seems God is nowhere to be found, but in those times we have a promise from God we can count on.
“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:20
