The Hand of God

I woke up one morning only a couple of days after Heaven excited to read my Jesus Calling book that God had just gifted me from the pastor at the local church down the street. It sounded exactly like the God I just met and I knew it would help me to keep in touch with him in a healthy way. I opened up to the passage which said, “Anxiety is a result of envisioning the future without Me.”

I was stunned. I thought about my own anxiety, which I had struggled with my whole life. No amount of therapy ever seemed to help it. I always felt I had to be multiple steps ahead of everything in order for life to work out, so I was always planning for the future or busy trying to avoid the worst possible outcomes.

I told God in my heart that it would be nice to feel as though my thoughts weren’t racing around in my head all of the time. I moved over to the other side of the couch and laid there in the Presence of God. I could still feel the Glory of God and the presence of Heaven there in the living room with me. I felt as though I could lay there forever. I looked out and saw what I can only describe as a sea of golden clouds surrounding me. That’s when I heard God say, “Get on your knees.”

I questioned whether or not I actually heard God say this. Like, why would it matter if I was on me knees or sitting? What difference did it make? After all, God was omnipresent. He could see me from every angle, but as I pondered it more, I understood this was an act of humility, not a matter of physics.

So, I humbled myself toward God. I somewhat reluctantly crawled over to the floor by the window facing the street. I got on my knees and lifted my hands toward God in some act trust. Part of me felt completely ridiculous and vulnerable. After all, I wasn’t sure God was going to answer my gesture.

Just then, the Hand of God reached down from Heaven and went into my mind. God held my head and every thought captive. I could see into my own mind and my mind looked like the universe full of stars, planets, and galaxies. The stars were like particles swirling so fast within the universe that I didn’t have a sense of mental peace. When God reached His Hand into my mind, every star or thought kept completely still, and for a moment I relaxed my body while God held onto my head. I felt peace of mind for the very first time.

Yet, I was trembling with fear. I felt completely loved by God and afraid of God at the same time. I became very aware of both how loved I was by God and also how small I was in comparison to God and the rest of the universe. It was as though God was saying, “You are a mere creation and I am Creator.” I knew God was so powerful He could kill me, but I knew I was completely loved and secure in God. After a few minutes, God slowly lifted His Hand from my mind and it went back into Heaven.

You are made for Peace, Love, and Joy

God Bless,
Kathryn Elsie
